PROMOTING
A HEALTHY COMPETITION CULTURE IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA
February 14-15,
2008, Gaborone, Botswana
|
CUTS International organised an international
competition conference held on 14th – 15th
February 2008 in Gaborone (Botswana) to mark the
culmination of the project entitled, “Capacity
Building on Competition Policy in Select Countries
of Eastern and Southern Africa” (7Up3 Project).
Ministry of Trade and Industry (Botswana) and
Botswana Council for Non-Government Organisations
(BOCONGO) were partner CUTS in organising this
conference. The conference was to showcase the
outcomes of the project (http://www.cuts-ccier.org/7up3/7Up3.htm)
and trace the path for the future on competition
policy and law in the region.
In
addition to drawing project partners and other
stakeholders from the seven project countries,
this conference (entitled – “Promoting A Healthy
Competition Culture In Sub-Saharan Africa”) also
offered an opportunity for competition scholars
and practitioners from the continent and outside
to engage in the discourse on the road ahead for
evolving effective competition regimes in
sub-Saharan Africa.
CUTS
implemented the 7Up3 project to develop the
understanding of multiple stakeholders on the need
for a functional competition regime in select
countries of eastern and southern Africa. The
project has been undertaken in Botswana, Ethiopia,
Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Uganda
with support from the Department for International
Development (U.K.) and the Norwegian Agency for
Development Cooperation (Norway).
